About Hilary:

Hilary began her career over 35 years ago as a hard rock geologist, working in remote exploration camps and then transitioned to the oil and gas industry. She worked on the oil rigs, and had technical roles in exploration, development and corporate planning over an almost 20 year time frame.  Her career then evolved from the technical application of geoscience, to the strategic. As a financial advisor, she brokered many merger and acquisition transactions and later, in an executive role, was the architect and lead negotiator of trend setting and award winning multi-billion dollar, international joint ventures.  She has had a number of executive roles in both investment banking and oil and gas operations, including Managing Director at Scotiabank and Executive Vice-President and Chief Operating Officer for Penn West Exploration, which at the time was one of the largest Canadian oil companies.

Hilary is the founder and currently, Chair of Tudor Pickering Holt & Co. Canada, a local branch of the global energy advisory firm based in Houston.  She is a Corporate Director for Enerplus Corporation and for private equity company, Modern Resources.  Hilary is also the Chair of “Let’s Talk Science”, a national science education foundation that promotes science literacy for children.

She served as a member of the Crude Oil and Liquids Advisory Panel during the 2015 Alberta Royalty Review, is a “Deloitte Women of Influence Speaker” and University of Waterloo Distinguished Alumni.

Hilary is a member of the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta, the Canadian Society of Petroleum Geologists and the Canadian Institute of Corporate Directors. She has a unique perspective on life, leadership and governance in Canada’s oil patch.
