"All genders - All experience levels - All sectors" welcome!

Abstract:

The field of Data Science has advanced quickly over the past couple of years, and for someone who has little or no experience in the field, it’s hard to get a general understanding of how these roles differ and which core skills are actually required.

Data engineer, data analyst, and data scientist — these are job titles you’ll often hear mentioned together when people are talking about the fast-growing field of data science.

Join the AltaML team for an interactive session as they explore the different types of organizational structures that data science teams can have as well as the key roles in those teams. The first half of the event will cover organizations and their structural approach to AI and the second half will be informal breakout rooms led by AltaML team members on the different types of roles.

Breakout Sessions:

  • Data Scientist, Led by Jenny Lien ; Machine Learning Team Lead, AltaML Applied AI Lab
  • Data Engineer, Led by Alex Hope; Machine Learning Engineer, AltaML
  • Developer, Led by Ellie Jones; Machine Learning Developer, AltaML
  • Data Analysis, Led by Reuben Gazar; Data Specialist, AltaML

Danielle Gifford; Senior Manager, AltaML Applied AI Lab

Since the beginning of her career, Danielle has worked in and with start-ups focusing in deep science and technology from pre-seed to Series A. Having experienced both an acquisition and a failure has taught her how to be gritty, take calculated risks, move fast, and fail forward. Today, she leads the AltaML Applied AI Lab, an industry-led initiative that creates dynamic partnerships to advance machine learning talent in applied AI.

She has experience leading global and technical teams from business problem ideation to leveraging AI across energy, operations, and financial services to create organizational value through applied AI. Danielle holds a dual honours degree in Psychology and Business, an MBA, and executive certificates from MIT.
