Presented By: Tanya Yeomans and Tim Mack; helping us demystify the hackathon process.
Thursday January 21, 2021 12:00pm - 1:00pm (MST) Virtual Event Registration: Please register here. "All genders - All experience levels - All sectors" welcome!
Hackathons can be incredibly useful tools for both career and personal development however they also have an intimidation factor that can discourage a broad demographic from participating.
With GeoWomenYYC’s “Data By Design” project we want to show you that hackathons (datathons) don’t have to be like that and you and your diverse background have a lot to offer the process. Tanya and Tim will step us through the hackathon process and show us it’s safe to dive in. They may even provide us with some water wings :).
- Tanya Yeomans: Tanya has over 15 years of experience working in public service, with an educational background in history and geology. She is working on a Master’s degree in Geographic Information Systems with current research interests in open data. Tanya is passionate about community building, collaboration, and learning. She looks forward to co-chairing the GeoWomen Datathon and meeting the participants.
- Tim Mack: Tim is a Data Specialist with the Alberta Energy Regulator and has over 15 years experience in spatial and subsurface data management and analysis. He has recently discovered the power of Python open source tools and hopes to one day be good at using them.
GeoWomen is thrilled to be collaborating with “Women In Data YYC“, “Women in AI YYC” and the “YYC Data Society” and we strongly believe that cross industry networking opportunities is a main feature of this project.
As such, the first half of the webinar will be a 45minute presentation/discussion followed by a10minute break out room activity so come prepared to turn your camera or mic on. Introverts we feel your pain. We promise you to keep it light hearted and structured enough that the time will fly by and you might even enjoy yourself while forming some great new connections.
