Susan R. Eaton, founder and leader of the 2014-2016 Sedna Epic Expedition, is a Calgary-based geologist, geophysicist, conservationist and journalist. Eight years ago, she suffered a SCUBA diving trauma that landed her in a hyperbaric chamber and ended her diving career. Undaunted, her life-long relationship with the ocean (which had included teaching diving) didn’t end there. Today, she explores the world’s oceans—from Antarctica to the Arctic—in the snorkel zone, a dynamic land-sea-air-ice interface. A member of the Explorers Club, she will lead Team Narwhal.
She is a Calgary-based geologist and geophysicist with 30-plus years of experience, Susan has had a successful career in the Canadian energy sector, attaining the position of Vice President of Exploration in several junior oil and gas companies. Known for her business acumen, she’s been listed in the Who’s Who of Canadian Women Directory.
Here is her message that I am passing to all of you..
Respectfully, I’m reaching out you—my female relatives, friends, work colleagues and associates—to let them know that Team Sedna, my all-female team of 10 arctic explorers, is fundraising via a new-fangled social media platform called “Indiegogo.”
Team Sedna has five (5) days left in its crowd-sourcing Indiegogo campaign, and we’re hoping to raise funds to pay for part of our July 2014 proof-of-concept expedition to the Arctic.
The 2014-2016 Sedna Epic Expedition provides an amazing hands-on platform to raise awareness about disappearing sea ice in the Arctic. It’s also represents a great opportunity to reach out and empower Inuit women and girls in Canada’s North and, indeed, young women around the world.
This proof-of-concept expedition is crucial to reaching our goal of snorkeling the Northwest Passage—all 3,000 kilometers of it—during the summer of 2016. We can’t achieve one without the other, so your support is essential to the success of both of our missions: the July 10-30th proof-of-concept expedition and our epic snorkel relay, in 2016 of the Northwest Passage, from Pond Inlet, Nunavut, to Inuvik, Northwest Territories, Canada.
Every donation, no matter how small, will be warmly received. Support a snorkeler or become a friend of the expedition!
If making a donation via PayPal is not your preference, Team Sedna gladly accepts cheques, made out to me, the expedition leader. My mailing address is listed below, along with our Facebook, Sedna website, Youtube and Indiegogo sites.
On behalf of Team Sedna, I thank you, in advance, for your consideration of my request.
Most sincerely yours, Susan
